RCIA
The RCIA for next year will begin in September. If you know of someone – husband, wife, friend, neighbour, who might be interested in exploring whether God may be calling them to become a Catholic, then please ask them, and if so they can contact Nicola in our Parish Office and leave their name and telephone number with her or there are forms with further details on the table in the porch.

Papal Visit Prayer –
16th - 19th September 2010

God of truth and love, your Son, Jesus Christ, stands as the light to all who seek you with a sincere heart.
As we strive with your grace to be faithful in word and deed,
may we reflect the kindly light of Christ and offer a witness of hope and peace to all.
We pray for Pope Benedict and look forward with joy
to his forthcoming visit to our countries.
May he be a witness to the unity and hope which is your will for all people.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen

16th Sunday of the Year

Fr. Duncan writes: In September we will welcome our Holy Father, Pope Benedict to Britain. After receiving a number of confusing emails, it now seems clear that there are two events to which we are invited to participate. There will be a prayer Vigil in Hyde Park on Saturday 18th and the Mass for the Beatification of John Henry Newman at Cofton Park in Birmingham on Sunday 19th. We have been allocated 110 places for the Hyde Park vigil and 38 places for the Mass in Cofton Park for our parish. If you would like to go to either of these events, please take a form from the back of the church, fill it in and return it to the priests’ house. Estimated timings and costs are given on the form. I need to submit the names of those requiring tickets at the end of July. If the number of applications exceeds the places available, names will be drawn by ballot. PS. Please ignore the return date on the form.

Altar Servers Holidays
As usual, because so many Servers go away on holiday, no rota will be published during August.  Will Servers please volunteer to serve on the weekends when they are not away?  Blank lists are available in the sacristy and remember it is your duty to serve whenever you are needed – during August you are always needed!  The rota published this weekend on Saturday 17th July covering the weekend of 24th and 25th July will be the last until after the Summer when the next rota will be put up on Saturday 28th August and will cover the weekend of 4th and 5th September.

Sunday Group
Just a reminder that today, Sunday, 18th July is the last lesson for the term. We look forward to seeing everyone at our end of term Mass at 10.00am today and then afterwards for tea and coffee in the Coffee Lounge.

Pilgrimage to Lourdes
Next Sunday a group of us will be setting off from our parish to join the Westminster Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The pilgrimage will be led by our Archbishop, Vincent Nichols, and the auxiliary bishops. If you would like us to take any petitions to Our Lady of Lourdes, these may be handed to Fr Duncan or posted through the letter box of the priests’ house. Your petition should be written out and placed in an envelope and sealed.

Confirmation Thanks
The Confirmation Catechists would like to thank the parents for their generous gift, it was very much appreciated. God Bless from all the Catechists.

Preparation for First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion – 2010/2011
Parents of all children who will be starting Year 3 in September 2010, and who belong to this parish, are invited to attend an information and registration meeting at the Hesdin Hall on Thursday 9th September 2010 at 8.00pm. It is expected that all children who do not attend a Catholic School complete Year 2 at Sunday Group before they undertake sacramental preparation

Weekday Masses
With two priests in the parish we are able to have additional Masses during the week. Please check Mass Intentions overleaf for details as times may vary from week to week.

Porch Table
It has come to our attention that over the last few months people have been leaving items on the table in the porch, which they think may be of interest to others. Please note this table is for literature which has come from the Parish Office ONLY. No other papers should be placed on this table, other than by prior agreement with Fr. Duncan and through Nicola in the Parish Office. Any additional papers/prayers/literature left on the table in the future will be disposed of. Thank you for your co-operation.

Brightlights Pilgrimage
Next weekend, Sunday 18th July at 2.00pm in London Colney, AL2 1AF is the first Brightlights Pilgrimage. Join hundreds to walk the very route that St. Albans took from his place of arrest on the grounds of SPEC Centre to his execution spot in St. Albans where he became England’s first Saint and Martyr, followed by a short service in the Abbey at 7.30pm. £8.00 includes walk, packed supper and coach. Please see www.brightlights.org.uk for more information.
