Second Sunday of the Year

Fr. Duncan writes: This week we begin the Ordinary Sundays of the Year. It is in these ‘ordinary’ Sundays that we journey with Jesus as he travels around preaching and teaching his people, each one of us. This year we shall be reading from the gospel of St Luke, a gospel of gentleness and compassion, although we begin today with a passage from the Gospel of St John. Throughout Luke’s gospel we see evidence of his sensitivity and tolerance together with a deep awareness of the work of the Holy Spirit.

The Sacrament of Confirmation
Bishop Alan Hopes will be coming to our parish to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on 3rd July this year. If there are any young people from our parish, in Year 9 or above, who wish to be confirmed this year, they should write to Fr. Duncan now. Their letter should include name, address, telephone number, date of birth, school attended and reason for wishing to receive this Sacrament. The application list closes on 31st January. The young people themselves should be thinking about this Sacrament, and so they should write the letter themselves.

Baptism Congratulations
Congratulations to Oliver James Barrett who was baptised into our Church yesterday, Saturday.

Children's Liturgy of the Word Term Dates – 10.00am Mass
The dates for this term are as follows: 17th & 24th January, 21st & 28th February, 14th & 28th March. Please note these sessions are designed for children of primary school age and are not suitable for toddlers or children younger than 'Reception' class (age 4 or 5 years). The sessions are a time for learning and discussing the weekly gospel and take the format of 'carpet-time' as in a classroom environment.

Grateful Thanks
Pat Walsh would like to thank Fr. Duncan, Tom Cox, The Rosary & Walsingham Group and all parishioners for their prayers and get well messages received during the past weeks. She has been overwhelmed by your kindness. Pat is recovering at home and hopes to be back soon. She has offered Holy Mass for all your intentions.

Church Heating

Just before Christmas one of the boilers in the church stopped working which meant that we were on half power for a couple of weeks. Because of this, and the extreme cold weather, it took longer to bring the church up to a reasonable temperature. The boiler has now been repaired and so both boilers are now working. The filters in fan heaters around the church are being cleaned to ensure they are working efficiently.
