Second Sunday of Advent

Fr. Duncan writes: Dear Parishioners, last weekend we began the Season of Advent and on Sunday afternoon we had our Children’s Advent Celebration in the hall. This was a wonderful afternoon with many activities for the children. On Monday morning I was in our school to celebrate Mass for the beginning of Advent. We began the Mass by blessing the Advent Wreath and at the end of the Mass I blessed two statues of Our Lady that had been donated to the school by last years Year 6 families. This week we welcome Douay Martyrs School for the Carol Service in our church. Towards the end of Advent we will have our Penitential Service in the church. All these events combine to help us prepare for the celebration of Christmas.

Welcome
Welcome this weekend to Fr. Frank Wahle who will celebrate 11.30am Mass.

Deepest Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of Dorothy Pain whose Funeral service will take place this Monday 7th December at 1.00pm.

Christmas Envelopes
This weekend Christmas envelopes are available at the back of the Church. These are for your gifts to the priests of our Parish at Christmas. It is this money, together with the Easter collection which makes up our annual salary as priests. Please take an envelope and if you are not here over Christmas, drop it in beforehand.

Altar Servers
As we start to prepare for Christmas please will you fill in the list in the sacristy to indicate which Mass you will be attending at Christmas and also over Christmas weekend? You are also reminded that ALL SERVERS should attend the Annual Festal Mass at 10.30am on the Feast of St Stephen, 26th Dec, when new servers will be enrolled into the Guild and receive their medals, Certificates of Merit will be presented and 1 server will receive her Silver Medal.

First Friday Lunch – December
Please note this will now take place on the second Friday in December, 11th December instead of the first Friday. Why not come along and enjoy a home-cooked meal in the Coffee Lounge with friends, £4.00 per person with proceeds going to charities of our Church’s Trust.

Grateful Thanks
Many thanks to the catechists and helpers who organised the Advent Afternoon for children last Sunday. Many thanks to the Christmas Fayre Committee, helpers and to all who attended the Christmas Fayre yesterday. The prize winners and the amount raised will be in next week’s newsletter.

Parish Carol Service
Our annual Carol Service will take place next Sunday 13th December at 7.30pm in the Church. This is a lovely event and one of the highlights of our Parish year. It will be followed by mince pies and mulled wine in Hesdin Hall

The Douay Martyrs Christmas Concert
The annual Douay Martyrs Christmas Concert will take place this Wednesday 9th December at 7.00pm, followed by mince pies and mulberry wine in Hesdin Hall. We hope that parishioners and members of your family and friends will be able to come and join us in this celebration, which always proves to be a spiritually enriching experience.
