Fourteenth Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes: In today’s Gospel we hear of Jesus’ experience of rejection by his own people in Nazareth. He is profoundly affected by the way people react to him. Rejection in Nazareth renders him powerless to do any miracle among his own people. So he moves elsewhere, refusing to be enslaved by his failure to reach his own people. And he never returns to Nazareth again. The occasion marks the beginning of a new road for Jesus. We too, can learn from our own experience that when we admit our failures and limitations, that an exercise in honesty can mark the beginning of a new understanding about ourselves.

Farewell Mass
As the school finishes the weekend of 18th/19th July, I would like to invite you to my Farewell Mass on Sunday 19th July at 6.00pm followed by a Reception in Hesdin Hall. All are welcome to come along. There are lists of food at the back of the Church, please sign up if you can provide something for the occasion. I will leave for holidays on Monday 27th July and return just for two days in September before commencing my life at Notting Hill parish.

Fr. Michael’s Presentation
Thank you to all those who have contributed to our parish-wide collection and who have signed Fr. Michael’s leaving card. Just a short reminder that any other contributions can be either handed in to Nicola at the parish office on any weekday morning, returned via the offertory collection this weekend, or alternatively returned through the retiring collections next weekend, 11th/12th July. In addition, Fr. Michael’s card is still available for signature on Wednesday mornings in the parish office between 9.00-1.00pm.

Congratulations

Most Sacred Heart 70th Anniversary Photographs
The photographs taken at the 70th Anniversary of our Church are now on the parish website. Do have a look at them.

RCIA
The RCIA will begin again in September. If you know of someone – husband, wife, friend, neighbour who might be interested in exploring whether God may be calling them to become a Catholic, then please ask them and if so, either you or they should contact me and I will give you further information. The important thing to remember is that we are all called to be evangelizers and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ

St. Therese of Lisieux
As you may have read the Relics of St. Therese of Lisieux will be visiting England and Wales in September/October. They will be at the Carmelite Church, Kensington on 11-12 October and Westminster Cathedral from 12-15 October. St. Therese said:- “I will spend my Heaven doing good on earth. She is very much a saint for our time showing us the little way to sanctity. Two useful websites are www.catholicrelics.co.uk and www.therese oflisieux.org. Do try and make an effort to attend one of the venues.

Preparation for First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion – 2009/2010
Parents of all children who will be starting Year 3 in September 2009, and who belong to this parish, are invited to attend an information and registration meeting at the Hesdin Hall on Thursday 17th September 2009 at 8.00pm. It is expected that all children who do not attend a Catholic School complete Year 2 at Sunday Group before they undertake sacramental preparation
