Parish Priest: Fr. Michael Johnston
Parish Administrator: Nicola Burke
Fr. Michael writes: We see from today’s Gospel the difficulty the disciples had experienced in accepting of the Resurrection. From openly expressing their doubts and disbelief, the disciples came to share the experience of others who doubted. It was in sharing weakness and doubt that they gained strength and knowledge from each other. At the same time Jesus kept making clearer his Resurrection. In this Gospel, they saw, heard, touched, even ate with him. Jesus guided them through the scriptures and let them see to whom the scriptures pointed. In seeing the risen Jesus they saw the meaning of all that had gone before. The Resurrection is our human destiny too and we must not forget that.
Welcome
Welcome this weekend to Fr. Thyagu who will celebrate 8.30am and 10.00am Masses.
Congratulations & Prayers
For all those children baptised into our church yesterday, Saturday:- Keiralee Van Rensburg; Orla Larkin; Natalie Field and Alfred Francis.
Vocations Sunday
Next Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday or Vocations Sunday when we are asked to reflect on our vocation as being called by God. It is also the day when the Church asks to pray for more vocations, especially to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Next Sunday at all Masses there is a retiring collection for WEEF, the Westminster Ecclesiastical Education Fund which is the fund for the formation and training of our priests for the Dioceses. It costs about £20,000 a year to train a priest and training lasts six years. The Diocese is entirely dependent on donations so they really need help. Please take an envelope today after Mass from the back of the Church and try to give generously next weekend.
First Holy Communions
Next weekend we begin two Sundays of First Holy Communion Masses. We have around seventy children for First Holy Communion. Please pray for them all as we welcome them to the table of the Lord.
Flowers in May
May is by tradition the month in the Church dedicated to Mary. In our Church we have a lovely side chapel and statue of Mary. I would like to invite those with gardens and flowers to bring flowers in for our side chapel to Mary during the month of May. Our floral ladies group will keep an eye to make sure they are kept fresh. Some people may prefer to buy some flowers rather than take them from their gardens, but either way it would be lovely if during May our side chapel was decorated with flowers.
Gift Aid
Many thanks again to all those who have Gift Aided their offering to the Church thereby increasing our annual income, at no cost to themselves, by some £20,000 p.a. An important reminder though; we can ONLY claim the tax rebate if we have a record of payment to the Parish by means of an ENVELOPE, BANKERS ORDER or CHEQUE. Anyone who has Gift Aided their offertory but no longer pays any form of income tax should inform Michael Clark via the Priest's House.
