Fr. Michael writes: At Easter we will celebrate the Resurrection, the most important feast in the Christian calendar. Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday when we begin the Season of Lent, a time to prepare ourselves for that great feast. We are invited to let God find us where we are. The first reading for Ash Wednesday by the Prophet Joel will be God’s invitation to each one of us:- “Come back to me with all your hearts”. During Lent we should make time to look at where we are in our lives and discover God’s presence anew. Traditionally Lent is a time when we give up something or take up something extra. I give below suggestions so that we may all grow closer to God in this Season of grace.
Preparation for Lent
Ash Wednesday – Masses and distribution of ashes at 10.00am and 7.00pm Masses. Ash Wednesday is a Day of Fasting and Abstinence.
Weekday Mass – 10.00am daily. Why not try to attend Mass each day during Lent?
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament – Takes place in the Church each day from 10.30am-12.00 noon. Why not take the time to pop into Church, even for a few minutes to keep company with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament?
Rosary – Every morning at 9.30am in the Church, the rosary is recited. The rosary is a lovely way to pray and to start the day.
Thursday Night Prayer Group – Every Thursday at 8.00pm in the Warrender Room, open to all who wish to develop their prayer life in a group.
Stations of the Cross – Will take place every Friday of Lent at 7.00pm in the Church.
Confessions – Takes place every Saturday from 10.30am-11.30am and 5.15pm-5.30pm. Reconciliation Service with Bishop John Arnold on Monday 6th April at 7.30pm.
Lenten Fast Day – Takes place on Friday 6th March when we are asked to fast and give our profits to CAFOD’s retiring collection at Masses on Sunday 8th March.
Congratulations

Fr. Agustin

At the back of the Church are sheets on the notice board for you to complete if you can bring items of food. These should be brought into the Hall at 5.30pm. Grateful thanks to all.
Retiring Collection
Next Sunday, 1st March there will be a Retiring Collection for Lenten Alms which will go towards the Cardinal’s Lenten Collections for the St. John Southworth Society for the Poor and the building of schools in Bangladesh. Please give generously..
Parish Council Meeting
This Tuesday 24th February at 7.45pm there is a Parish Council Meeting in the Warrender Room
Sunday Group Helpers Required
We need two more helpers for the Sunday Groups. These are for the children who go to non-Catholic schools. It is an important group which takes place during term time from 9.10am to 9.50am. If you can help, please see Fr. Michael as soon as possible.
Mass Bookings
It has been drawn to my attention that people who may have booked an Anniversary Mass; Mass for the Dead; Baptism etc are approaching Adrian our organist to provide music. These Masses are public weekend Masses which I have responsibility for, and therefore no-one should be arranging music or hymns without discussing it first with me.
Fair Trade Fortnight – 23rd February – 8th March 2009
