Parish Priest: Fr. Michael Johnston
Parish Administrator: Nicola Burke
Fr. Michael writes: The Gospel today tells how Jesus cured a leper by touching him. We have no lepers among us, so we might ask:- What is the relevance of this for us?” The importance of the Gospel is that the worst suffering of the leper was caused not by leprosy itself, but by the consequences of it – being rejected by people. The relevance for us therefore lies there – in the people we reject, who we treat like ‘lepers’. The leper is anyone I exclude or cut off, anyone I look down on or despise. That person may even be a family member. We can reject in small but subtle ways. It may be in indifference; the tone of my voice or a look or just ignoring the person. The medical world tells us it costs about £1.00 to cure a person of leprosy today, what does it cost to cure a person of rejection? A little dose of the oldest drug of all – love. All of us have that drug to offer – the capacity to love

How to Receive Holy Communion
Holy Communion may be received either on the tongue or in the hand. Each communicant is free to decide how to receive and no-one may seek to persuade someone to receive in one way or another. However you may receive, try to do so in a dignified and reverent manner. Reception on the tongue: After making your response “Amen”, present your tongue to the minister who will place the Host upon it. Just opening your mouth is not sufficient as this makes it difficult for the minister to place the Host reverently. The tongue needs to be easily accessible. Reception in the hand: As you approach the altar, place one hand upon the other and extend them forwards so that the minister sees clearly that you wish to receive in the hand. The palm of the upper hand should be flat and fingers straight. When the minister has placed the Host upon the palm of the hand, stand to one side to let the next person come forward and, before walking away, reverently consume the Host in front of the priest or minister. I would be grateful if those with children would remind them of this.
