Evening Masses
Just to remind you again that there are no Tuesday or Thursday evening Masses until Fr. Cristiano returns after 17th December

Confirmation 2009
Please note all Confirmation Registration Forms and where necessary Baptismal Certificates must be returned to the Presbytery by today.

2009 Catholic Diaries
Catholic diaries are out in the porch and you are welcome to take one and place a donation in the box marked ‘Newspapers’

Westminster Year Books
These are usually on sale in the Repository at this time of the year but the printers have informed us that they will not arrive in parishes until about 16th December.

Christmas Envelopes
This weekend Christmas Envelopes are available at the back of the Church. These are for your gifts to the priests of our Parish at Christmas. It is this money with the Easter collection which makes up our annual salary as priests. Please take an envelope and if you are not here over Christmas, drop it in beforehand.

First Friday Lunch
The First Friday Lunch for December will be on Friday 12th December at 1.00pm and not Friday 5th December.

Invitation to our Children
This Christmas for the 7.00pm Vigil Mass I would like to invite all the girls to come dressed as angels and all the boys as shepherds and process out with me to the crib. I tell you now as you still have lots of time to sort out your costume.

Sacred Heart School Children
Next Thursday 11th December at 1.30pm we welcome Year 3 children from Sacred Heart School into our Church.

Second Sunday of Advent

Fr. Michael writes: Today we heard the opening of the Gospel of Mark, which introduces us to the two great figures that stand at the beginning of the Christian story: Jesus and John the Baptist. All four evangelists witness to the truth that you cannot tell the story of Jesus without first speaking about John the Baptist. It is the towering figure of John that introduces Jesus in his public life and ministry. John worked no miracles, held no office, belonged to no religious party, yet his importance was unique. Through John the silence of God is broken. That is no doubt why, as St. Mark says:- “all Judea and all Jerusalem make their way to John”.

Welcome
Today for 10.00am and 11.30am Masses we welcome Fr. Michael O’Boy. Our readers will be re-commissioned at all Masses and our new readers commissioned at 11.30am Mass. This is a fitting date because today is Bible Sunday and Fr. O’Boy is the Director of the Agency for Evangelisation in the Diocese.

Congratulations
To the children baptised into the Church yesterday - Samuel Gallagher; Bethany Sam-Ebanks and Rosie Curtis.

Our Sympathy
To Jackie Leeds and family on the death of her father Jack Rock. His Funeral will take place this Tuesday 9th December at 10.00am. Our sympathy also to the family of Mary Dowling whose Funeral Mass takes place this Monday 8th December at 10.00am.

Grateful Thanks
Many thanks to the catechists and helpers who organised the Advent Afternoon for children last Sunday. Many thanks to the Christmas Bazaar Committee, helpers and to all who attended the Christmas Bazaar yesterday. The prize winners and the amount raised for the refurbishment of Hesdin Hall toilets will be in next week’s newsletter.

Parish Carol Service
Next Sunday 14th December at 7.30pm we have our Parish Carol Service here in the Church. It is a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas. Mulled wine and mince pies will follow in the Hall.

Reconciliation Service
The Reconciliation Service in preparation for Christmas will take place this year on Monday 22nd December at 7.30pm. Bishop John Arnold and six priests will be available. This is the best preparation we have for Christmas. Please tell your family and friends to come along on that evening.

Sunday Group
Just a reminder for all Sunday Group families that this Sunday 7th December is the last lesson of the term. Our end of term mass will be at 10.00am on Sunday 14th December followed by refreshments and carols in the hall. The new term starts on Sunday 11th January 2009.

The History of Sacred Heart School 1937 - 2008
We are delighted to inform parishioners that Eileen Bowlt has written a book on the history of Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School. The book is similar to the one that Eileen previously wrote on the Most Sacred Heart Church. The book has taken well over a year to compile, during which time Eileen has interviewed former pupils and staff, collected photographs and memories and carried out a great deal of archive research.  The finished product is a wonderful record of the school from its inception in 1937 to the present day and an ideal Christmas present! Copies are now available in the repository for £7 each or alternatively you are welcome to pop into the school office to collect a copy on any school day.  Please spread the news to anyone you know associated with the school in the past.

Christmas Message
Next weekend a copy of the Christmas Message with the times of all the Christmas and New Year services will be available in the porch.

Altar Servers

Please will all servers fill in the list in the sacristy THIS WEEKEND to indicate which Mass they will be attending at Christmas?  All Altar Servers are also reminded that they should attend their Annual Festal Mass at 10.30am on the Feast of St Stephen, 26th December, when new servers will receive their medals and one server will receive their Silver Medal
