Our RCIA programme began last Thursday. If anyone else wishes to join with a view to exploring the possibility of becoming a Catholic, then please join us next Thursday at 8.00pm in the Presbytery.

Many Thanks
Winifred Spooner and Betty Elliot had a very pleasing result at their Macmillan Coffee Morning on 26th September, £405.50 was raised. Thank you for your support.

Jubilee Trust & 200 Club
This year’s cycle for the 200 Club is due to start in October. If you have taken a form, please return it to the box in the porch as soon as possible. Forms are still available on the table in the porch.

The Rosary
October begins next Wednesday and is by tradition the month of the Rosary. The Rosary is a simple but beautiful prayer. The Rosary takes place each day in the Church, Monday to Saturday at 9.30am. Why not come along and join in? If not, why not try to pray the Rosary as a family at home, particularly with your children

Applications for Secondary School Places
Secondary school forms will be signed by the priests next Saturday 11th October in the Presbytery from 2.00-4.00pm. Please treat this date as a priority as no other times are available and secondary school forms are most important and should replace other Saturday afternoon leisure commitments.

Parish Christmas Bazaar
The Christmas Bazaar is our largest fundraiser and last year this day raised just under £5000 for our parish – what a wonderful result! If you, your company or friends can donate a top prize we would be delighted as most of the fundraising is generated through the Grand Prize Draw ticket sales. If you can help please contact Fr. Michael asap as tickets will be printed in the next few weeks

Twenty Seventh Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes: : In our busy, busy world, where we have so little time for anything or anyone, we find patience a difficulty. If something doesn’t work immediately, the first time, so often we give it up as a bad job. Fortunately God is not like that. He is infinitely patient. This is the message of the Gospel. The tenants in the vineyard are the people of Israel. God has given them so many gifts and opportunities, but they refuse to listen to Him. He sends one prophet after another, to no avail. But God is patient. He never gives up on His people. Finally, he sends His only Son. Surely, they will listen to Him? We know the outcome. God is patient. He gives us every opportunity but He does expect a response.

Congratulations
Congratulations to those baptised into our Church yesterday, Luke Elliott, Angela Ashworth, Lorcan Doab and Harry Bickerstaff.

Baptism Preparation
This Monday 6th October at 8.00pm there is a Baptism preparation for parents in the Coffee Lounge.

Confirmation Catechists
We are still looking for a few people to help as Confirmation catechists for the coming year. Please see Fr. Michael if you can help.

Confirmation Programme 2009
For those in Year 9 and above who would like to join the Confirmation programme for 2009, please write a short letter to Fr. Michael  giving your name, address, telephone no, e-mail address and school you attend and we will send out an application form. The parents meeting will be on 3rd February 2009.

Readers/Eucharistic Ministers
We currently need 6 new Readers and 6 new Eucharistic Ministers to replace those who have moved etc during the past few months. If you can help, please add your name and telephone number to the list on the clipboard in the porch.

Children's Advent Celebration - Volunteers Required
Do you have an artistic flair or enjoy taking part in creative activities? Would you consider donating two hours or so of your time to help the children of the parish make some Advent related crafts?  If so, we need your help please. This year's Children's Advent Celebration will take place in the Hall on Sunday 30 November. If you are interested in helping out on the day please call either Vivienne Sheard , Cathy Neville or Caroline Murray and leave your details. Our thanks in anticipation.

First Communion Programme
May I urge again those parents with children starting the First Confession and First Communion programmes shortly to please bring your child to Mass regularly. The preparation programme will only lead to confusion for the child if you do not attend Mass. This is very important for all children in Year 3 preparing for these sacraments.

Reconciliation Talk
There will be a reconciliation talk led by Diana Klein at St. Thomas More Church on Tuesday 14th October at 7.30pm. This would be beneficial for parents of children making their First Holy Communion and also for catechists.

November Holy Souls
November by tradition is the month of the Holy Souls. At the back of the Church are the Holy Souls envelopes for you to put in your list of deceased family and friends and offerings for Masses. During the month of November those lists will be placed by the altar and remembered at all Masses. Please drop the envelopes back to the Presbytery by the end of October.

CAFOD Harvest Fast Day: Friday 3rd October
Last Friday was Harvest Fast Day. Please return you CAFOD envelopes today and share what you can with poor communities in the developing world.  Example of what your donation to CAFOD can provide - £25 could buy a comprehensive seed pack for two families in Mozambique and feed ten people for one whole year. Don’t forget to fill in the Gift Aid details if you are a taxpayer. CAFOD passes on this message from 18 year old Celina (pictured in the Fast Day poster and leaflet), who struggles to support her HIV-positive parents in drought-stricken Mozambique – “We are so glad for the help that you give us. Please find it in your hearts to keep supporting us because we need as much help as we can get”.

Hesdin Hall Licences

When hiring out Hesdin Hall and requiring a paying bar, a temporary licence MUST be obtained from the London Borough of Hillingdon. We only have 12 of these licences per year, therefore please ensure all groups, organisations or individuals hiring the hall for 2009 and wishing to obtain a licence speak to Fr. Michael first who will seek the approval of the Parish Council. Failure to do so, with the appropriate notice period, will result in no licence as we like everybody else must obey the law of the land.
