Are You Thinking about Becoming a Catholic?
The weekly sessions of the R.C.I.A. begin in October and carry on until post Easter. This group consists of others exploring the idea of becoming a Roman Catholic; of a theme each week exploring the understanding of faith in the Roman Catholic Church and of a priest and one or two parishioners to help you. No one will put pressure on you and you are free to leave at any stage if you feel it is not for you. If you would like to know more, then pick up a leaflet from the table in the porch or speak to Fr. Michael

Parish Gift-Aiders
Would all those gift-aiding donations to the Parish who are not using offertory envelopes or Bankers Order, please ensure cheque or cash is placed in an envelope clearly marked as Offertory, This ensures tax can be reclaimed for the Parish. If cheques/cash are placed in the offertory unmarked, it is not possible to reclaim the tax element so PLEASE help us with this

Sacred Heart Primary School Applications
All forms for places at the Sacred Heart School for next year will be signed by Fr. Agustin or myself on Saturday 13th September from 2.00pm-4.00pm at the Presbytery. Forms will not be signed at any other time for whatever reason or circumstance. I would therefore urge you to treat this date as a priority should you wish to have a school form signed.

Preparation for First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion - 2008/2009
Parents of all children who will be starting Year 3 in September 2008, and who belong to this parish, are invited to attend an information and registration meeting at the Hesdin Hall on Thursday 18th September at 8.00pm.

17th Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes: : Wisdom is the most precious gift a person can have. It is a real treasure. Without it all other things are useless because we will not know how to use them. In the Old Testament reading today, Solomon asked for the gift of wisdom. God was pleased with his request and granted it to him. Wisdom is not the same thing as knowledge. Knowledge is something we have; wisdom is something we are. Unlike knowledge which is acquired through hard work, wisdom is a gift of God. Through the gift of wisdom God communicates to us the meaning of life; and the grandeur of our destiny, which is to be with God. It is the pearl of great price to which the Gospel refers. Once found no-one can rob us of it.
