4th Sunday of Easter

Fr. Michael writes: :  Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter, also known as ‘Good Shepherd Sunday’ because each year, on this particular Sunday, we hear the passage in John’s Gospel where Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd.  Today is also the annual World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life and we are invited to join the universal Church in praying that many will respond to the Lord calling them to these vocations in imitation of the Good Shepherd.  May God strengthen all those he calls to the priesthood or religious life and fill them with a generous spirit to respond in love and service of his people.

Welcome

Today at all Masses we welcome our seminarian Mark Walker who will speak at all Masses for Vocations Sunday.

Annual WEEF Collection

The retiring collection today is for the Westminster Ecclesiastical Education Fund and the very encouraging news is that more men are now in training for the priesthood than at any time over the last ten years.  But what this news also means is that more money will need to be raised, as it costs around £50.00 a day to train a priest.  Our prayers for more priests really are being answered and it is now up to us to ensure that there is enough money to cover the cost of their training and our seminary.  So could I ask you to give as much as you can afford.  If you are a taxpayer, could I also urge you to complete the Gift Aid form on the back of the donation envelope as this will add 25p to every £1 that you give at no extra cost to yourself.  Thank you.
Please take a copy of the Mulberry, Allen Hall’s seminary journal which informs people about the Diocesan Seminary.  There is no charge.  Leaflets are also available giving information and the financial situation.

Altar Servers

In order to ensure that our records are up to date and that each server is only rostered when they are available, will all servers please collect a new Altar Server Record Form and return it as soon as possible to the box in the sacristy.  Any server who does not return a form by 4th May will be considered to have resigned from serving and will be omitted from future rosters.  If you no longer wish to serve please return your cassock and cotta to the sacristy as soon as possible.

The Parish Youth Group will meet on Sunday 13th April.  If you are between the ages of 13 & 18 please come along and join them in the Coffee Lounge between 7.00 pm & 8.30 pm.
