Lenten Alms
Each year we collect Lenten Alms for those both “at home” and “abroad” who are most in need. Within the diocese the money collected will be for newly arrived migrants in the Diocese. Most especially the diocese will be supporting the work of the Brothers of St John of God in Euston, and the work of the Sisters of Mercy in the Women at the Well House in Kings Cross working with trafficked women. Outside the Diocese our Lenten Alms will be for the relief of the poor in Zimbabwe and for a particular project in South Africa. The Lenten Alms box is situated on the wall facing the altar on the left hand side below the second Station of the Cross. Please be as generous as you can

Fr. Agustin writes: Each year, on the first Sunday of Lent the Gospel recounts the Temptation of Jesus in the desert. This year in the Gospel of Matthew, the evangelist records that it was the Holy Spirit who led Jesus into the desert where he fasted for forty days and forty nights. His forty day fast in the desert is the model for our forty day journey through the Lenten season. Lent is a joyful season even if during this time we need to experience the desert and temptations, but the Spirit is leading us, as he did with Christ into the wilderness; our own
spiritual wilderness. The loneliness, the insecurity, the roughness of the desert can become for us a privileged place for an encounter with God’s mercy and forgiveness, an encounter with God himself. This is what the Lenten Journey wants to bring about into our lives; a spiritual renewal, a conversion of heart, an encounter with the living God.
