Fr. Michael writes: Will the family as we know it still exist in twenty years time? Some people today seem to doubt it. In celebrating the feast of the Holy Family, the Church is not only asking us to recall the relationship of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in the carpenter’s home in Nazareth. She is reminding us that the family is a society which nurtures and cultivates holiness. The family shows us the Church in miniature. The Second Vatican Council said that the family is the domestic Church.
The home, therefore, has a sacramental setting and the love of husband and wife, parents and children, is caught up in God’s love and made holy. Home and family relationships are the very material from which God weaves his pattern of holiness, the very root of Christian growth. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family but we can really celebrate family life for all and pray for our own family today.
Many thanks
Many thanks to everyone who helped to make Christmas such a lovely celebration in our parish, to the Choir, Folk Group, Adrian our Organist; Clement and the altar servers; Readers and Eucharistic Ministers; the Flower Ladies for the lovely floral arrangements; collectors and sidesmen; sacristans and cleaners and Andy and Co. for the cribs and Christmas Trees.
Grateful thanks also to the vast numbers who attended all of our Christmas Services from the Carol Concert; the Reconciliation Service and all of our Christmas Masses. Is religion dying out? Certainly not in Ruislip!
